Although the cover and title of this book intrigued me, I found it to be, well, mostly just irritating. It skipped around all over the place, from one topic to another and I just felt like my head was swimming when I was finished. But then, I wondered if the hap-hazard organization of the book wasn't intentional...there's a page that says "Are you confused yet? That's because country music all fits together like a great big jigsaw puzzle..."
The best thing about this book, in my opinion, are the illustrations, although, not being extremely knowledgeable about country music, especially its history, I kept wondering about the identity of the musicians pictured in the illustrations. I kept wishing there were labels, or something, on each page. I felt a little better when I found the "cheat sheet" in the back of the book, but I thought it was irritating (sorry, there's that word again) to have to keep flipping back and forth to see who was who.
I couldn't get over the feeling that, although this looks like a children's book, it might appeal more to adult fans of country music. And what, exactly, is a squeezal?

This book did appeal to me. I liked the way it showed the historical time-line, although several parts (namely bluegrass) did seem a bit thrown in. The caricatures were wonderful. I have a fairly strong country music background though. I don't think it would be well received by those who don't. I agree that it doesn't really seem to be geared to children.
