Please add this title to the list. I tend to find collected biographies too skimpy on information about each person/topic. Fradin does an excellent job of sharing each person's story with enough background to help the reader understand the topic better.

From the introduction: "While luck often plays a role in discoveries... the trick is to be observant enough to take advantage of a serendipitous occurrence."
Thanks for suggesting this title, Teresa! I agree that it was nice to have a bit more information than what is usually found in collected biographies. I also liked the variety of people who were represented.

I have to say that I was skeptical at first, but I really enjoyed this book! Fradin does a good job of portraying the "human-ness" of each person, describing some of their failures and struggles, as well as their successes. His descriptions are written in a way to make readers think that perhaps they, too, if they follow up on something they notice that's out of the ordinary, could make some great discovery.
