Here is our first reading list for the Allen County Public Library’s 2006 Mock Sibert:

Amelia to Zora by Cynthia Chin-Lee (Charlesbridge)
Ballpark: The Story of America's Baseball Fields by Lynn Curlee (Atheneum)
Genius: A Photobiography of Albert Einstein by Marfe Ferguson Delano (National Geographic)
Mother Teresa by Demi (S&S/Margaret K McElderry)
Invisible Allies: Microbes that Shape our Lives by Jeanette Farrell (Farrar)
Invisible Enemies: Stories of Infectious Disease by Jeanette Farrell (Farrar)
Let It Begin Here!: Lexington & Concord: First Battles of the American Revolution by Dennis Brindell Fradin (Walker)
Understanding the Holy Land by Frank Mitch (Viking)
Giblin, James Cross Good Brother, Bad Brother (Clarion)
Let's Talk About Race by Julius Lester (HarperCollins/Armistad)
The Battle Against Polio by Stephanie True Peters (Benchmark)
Gorilla Doctors by Pamela Turner (Houghton Mifflin)
The Librarian of Basra: A True Story from Iraq by Jeanette Winter (Harcourt)
Librarians at the Allen County Public Library put starred reviewed titles on this list. Typically, we add titles that have received at least two starred reviews, but that isn't always the case. Sometimes we add titles by well-known authors. We also add titles that are recommended by our participants.
There will be two additional editions of the reading list. The second list will be available in September/October, and the third in November. The reading list is also available online at acpl.lib.in.us/children/sibert_current.html
Whenever you have a title you want to discuss, please add a thread for it in the folder called Recommended Titles of 2005 for the 2006 Mock Sibert. If you can, please include the author's last name as well as a portion of the title in the subject line.
I look forward to some great discussions!
Mary
