This book is very cool. I liked writing in code as a kid and figuring out the cryptoquote in our local newspapers. I would have loved this book when I was young.
Anyone else read it yet?

This really succeeds as an informational book. For a reader who's interested in codes, it offers clear instructions, that also allow for pretty complex codes. If you're a reader who's not actually going to send secret messages, it's still fascinating to read. By starting with how to solve codes, then moving to creating them, he reinforces the basic concepts you need to grasp. And the interwoven history adds a lot. I also appreciate the author's tone...it's playful, yet respectful of a child reader's desire to have (and share) secrets, even if they're not real spies (yet).
