I have not finished reading this, but I want to touch base with anyone else who might have read it or be reading it. Do you think it is within the intended audience of up to the age of 14? It seems to be written to an older audience.

And I never did finish reading it. I would remove this post from the recommended titles, but I'm too curious to hear from others who may have finished it (or at least started it).
I do not question it as excellent research of an important literary figure. I do think it is geared to an older audience interested in literary criticism and history. I was hoping for a book similar to Donald R. Hettinga's The Brothers Grimm: Two Lives, One Legacy. It is much more accessible.

I agree with you about the book. I did start it and so far, I think it's a great book. But I do think it's geared toward an older audience. It's far too long and detailed for most 14 year olds.
